Brrrrrrrr. It’s been a very cold January, after a warm December here in Alabama. We grew accustomed to temps down to the 20’s in Northern Arizona, but they were always followed by a warm up to the 50’s or even 60’s. Not so here! We’ve been able to use the time productively, with Robert working steadily through two exciting manuscripts, and Dave finally able to recover from a significant bout with Meniere’s Disease with the help of Jubilee Chiropractic. It’s good to be back to 100% again!
Publishing in the Year 2022
Here’s a recent blog post that captures some great thoughts about the publishing world. It explains the many choices available to authors today and gives links for further research. A hat tip to the Word Weavers International Facebook group, where I first saw this link. Did you know that membership in that group is available when you join a local or online Word Weavers chapter?

Reader’s Prayer Input
Thanks to Barry Jones and Cho Larson for contributing their “Reader’s Prayers.” Here’s what has been written thus far:
LORD, may I allow the Holy Spirit to sort through the volumes of reading material I come across each day. And may I be listening at the "posts of your doors" to be a "directed" Reader! -- Barry Jones May the Word I read sink into my heart, inspire the words I write, and fill my mouth with praise. -- Cho Larson Dear Lord, allow my reading today to draw me closer to you. Let the words I am about to read point towards the Word that has provided us all.

Formatting Price Increases
In order to keep up with rising costs, we are raising our rates for formatting from $40.00 per hour to $50.00 per hour, effective February 1st. Thank you for your understanding.
IngramSpark Price Increase
Prices for printing and distribution for most of our titles will be increasing, effective March 8, 2022. As with November’s price increase, I will calculate the new price in the cost/revenue reports I send out monthly. I will contact any author who has titles that show a negative profit margin due to this change. Unlike November’s price increase, IngramSpark is being coy, failing to disclose a increase percentage and varying the increases across publication types.
Distribution Changes
We have recently started to receive numerous hardcopy returns from IngramSpark and will need to adopt a more flexible distribution strategy going forward to limit our financial exposure. Although contractually we can recoup return costs from our authors, our internal policy has been to not do so and we would like to continue along that path. Our first action will be to make some of our titles non-returnable. This can affect the breadth of distribution, so we are starting with titles that will be impacted the least. We will contact you to discuss if we believe your title falls into this category.
An alternative is to set aside a portion of royalties we share for each copy into a fund to handle the cost of returns. Please let us know your thoughts on this, either through the comments below or directly with us. Thanks.
