February has been a tough month here in Albertville. Heath issues have come back to the fore, necessitating the closing of the Word Weavers Sand Mountain chapter. A review of last years operations has prompted Warner House Press to make some changes to policy and direction, re-emphasizing our support to authors and cutting costs by eliminating some administrative services that were not popular with our customers. Details are below.
Phone Orders
In addition to offering our publications via our website, we now take phone orders! Let anyone interested in purchasing our books know that we can be reached at 256-660-0232.
Support Upgrade
We are offering a support upgrade to all our authors free of charge. Through the use of Google Spaces, we can provide you with 24x7 access to shared files, task lists, marketing info, contracts, cost/revenue reports and online chat with Warner House Press. All you need is an email address! Those interested can contact me directly at dave@warner.house. I will be glad to set up your access at no cost.
Shout out to Northern Arizona Word Weavers
This past weekend, an expanded version of my review of David Harder’s Persuaded appeared in the Spring issue of Sand Mountain Reporter’s Land+Lake magazine. I wrapped up the review with the following paragraph:
"Persuaded is one of several excellent works that have recently been produced by the Northern Arizona chapter of Word Weavers International. Under the leadership of Alice Kiles, the group has released eleven books over the past two years. Encompassing Bible Studies (The Kalmus Series by Cho Larson), Memoirs (Chased by the Hound of Heaven by Alice Klies), Devotionals (Life Signs by Faye Braley), Self-Help (Andy Speaks by Carolyn L. Coen and Andrew E. Coen), and Fantasy (The Fall of Varlana by Joy Simons), the group has demonstrated a wealth of support. encouragement and skill that is rare indeed. As part of Warner House Press, along with my son, Robert, I have been blessed to help bring to publication many of the works from the group."
Jamie out of print
We regret to say that the first novel (and second book) published by Warner House Press has gone out of print. Our publishing contract with authors gives a set period (usually two years) during which we license the author’s rights to their work. This gives the author (and us) the opportunity to continue the relationship or decide otherwise. This, along with limiting the scope of licensing, allows an amount of flexibility unusual in the publishing world. In the case of Jamie, the author’s representative, Tony Isola, passed away last year and his family did not wish to continue publication. Please contact me if you wish a copy of Jamie - we have limited stock left.
Addition of shipping charge
In the past six months, we have seen two price increases from IngramSpark, as well as a 25% rise in shipping costs. Naturally, this has impacted the net revenue for our books, which is shared with our authors. To regain some of the lost revenue, we have had to institute a $2.99 flat shipping charge for books dispatched directly from us.
Retirement of ACH Royalty Payments
The ACH royalty payment option has not been adopted by enough of our authors to justify the monthly charges, so we have dropped this service. All royalty payments will be sent out via paper check via Chase Bank in the future.
All books now non-returnable
Due to the unexpected doubling of return charges (from $2.00 to $4.00 per copy) by IngramSpark, we have marked all physical editions of Warner House Press books as non-returnable. This was a step that we had wanted to discuss with you, but immediate action was required to ensure the financial stability of Warner House Press. This action affects only the potential for books to be stocked on brick and mortar bookshelves.
